1. Overview

This directory contains packet drivers allowing you to log onto
a remote network by establishing a connection to a remote
LANCOM with a modem, ISDN PC board or ISDN terminal adapter.

3. Installation

        Workstation drivers:
        ====================

To install the networking software on a workstation for a
Novell network, use the following command line:

PKTINST drive path device protocol number name mode sn [COM port]

        drive : [ A: / B: / C: / D: / ... ] (destination drive)
path : Any path, without terminating backslash "\"
        device : [ isdn_pc / isdn_pcc / isdn_pcc16 / isdn_pcf / isdn_pcfp ]
                  [ isdn_tl / isdn_tlp / isdn_td / isdn_mc ]
        protocol: [ DSS1 / 1TR6 ]
number : Any phone or ISDN number; 1TR6 protocol: with EAZ digit
name : ID name of your workstation. This entry must be valid if
the remote station is configured as router.
        mode : [ B / N ] (burst mode or normal mode)
sn : Serial number of the driver disk (see disk label)
        COM port: [ 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 ] (for external devices only)

        Example:

        PKTINST C: \PKTDRV ISDN_P16 1TR6 024191777800 ISDN_PCX B 12345678

After successful installation, you may in addition use any
drivers or programs based on a packet interface. For example,
the PC/TCP products from ftp and various public domain products
        have been tested successfully.

For the usage of ISDN cards the corresponding CAPI driver has to be
loaded before using the PKT drivers.

        Driver software for MicroLink ISDN/MC:
        ==========================================

The driver software for MicroLink ISDN/MC is contained in a
        self-extracting archive named ISDNMC.EXE.

To extract the driver software, copy the file ISDNMC.EXE
to your hard disk and run it:

        C:\>md \isdn_mc <Enter>
        C:\>cd \isdn_mc <Enter>
        C:\ISDN_MC>copy a:isdnmc.exe <Enter>
        C:\ISDN_MC>isdnmc <Enter>

After successful installation, delete the file ISDNMC.EXE
from your hard disk to save disk space.

        Driver software for MicroLink ISDN/PCC-16:
        ==========================================

The driver software for MicroLink ISDN/PCC-16 is contained in a
        self-extracting archive named ISDNP16.EXE.

To extract the driver software, copy the file ISDNP16.EXE
to your hard disk and run it:

        C:\>md \isdn_p16 <Enter>
        C:\>cd \isdn_p16 <Enter>
        C:\ISDN_P16>copy a:isdnp16.exe <Enter>
        C:\ISDN_P16>isdnp16 <Enter>

After successful installation, delete the file ISDNP16.EXE
from your hard disk to save disk space.

        Driver software for MicroLink ISDN/PCF:
        =======================================

The driver software for MicroLink ISDN/PCF is contained in a
        self-extracting archive named ISDNPCF.EXE.

To extract the driver software, copy the file ISDNPCF.EXE
to your hard disk and run it:

        C:\>md \isdn_pcf <Enter>
        C:\>cd \isdn_pcf <Enter>
        C:\ISDN_PCF>copy a:isdnpcf.exe <Enter>
        C:\ISDN_PCF>isdnpcf <Enter>

After successful installation, delete the file ISDNPCF.EXE
from your hard disk to save disk space.

        Driver software for MicroLink ISDN/PCFpro:
        ==========================================

The driver software for MicroLink ISDN/PCFpro is contained
        in a self-extracting archive named ISDNPFP.EXE.

To extract the driver software, copy the file ISDNPFP.EXE
to your hard disk and run it:

        C:\>md \isdn_pfp <Enter>
        C:\>cd \isdn_pfp <Enter>
        C:\ISDN_PFP>copy a:isdnpfp.exe <Enter>
        C:\ISDN_PFP>isdnpfp <Enter>

After successful installation, delete the file ISDNPFP.EXE
from your hard disk to save disk space.

4. Notes

        - Connections to a LANCOM using the packet drivers and the
associated installation program will only work if the
          following conditions are fulfilled:

          a) There is no remote station LANCOM listed under
SETUP\WAN-MODUL\NAMENSLISTE or the factory default layer is linked
          to the selected remote station.

          b) The network must be a Novell 3.x or 4.x network.

        - If you want to use the drivers together with an ISDN/PC* card,
you must install the drivers of the respective archive
(ISDNPCC.EXE, ISDNPC.EXE) first. You will find
these drivers on the driver disk of the ISDN board.

        - The BURST mode is only available with DOS versions older than
6.0 in combination with BNETX.EXE and requires PBURST.NLM
          installed the server.

        - The installation program can only create a directory in the
root of the specified drive. If you want to copy the drivers
to a different subdirectory, the directory must already exist.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. Hints for Novell Servers

        - PBURST.NLM supplied with Novell NetWare Servers v3.11/12 is
designed for fast transfers using the Packet Burst method in
connection with BNETX or VLM. This method is not designed for
long packet transfer times as often encountered on WAN
connections. Therefore, for example, transfers via LANCOM
don't work well with the original PBURST.NLM.

        - Novell offers an enhanced PBURST.NLM (version 2.02, size:
95,736 bytes) which adapts to the longer transfer times of
WAN connections and therefore achieves a considerably better
speed than the "normal" PBURST.NLM. Since this newer PBURST
also requires the Packet Signature method, some Novell tools
          (LOGIN.EXE, ATTACH.EXE) in older versions (NetWare 3.11/3.12)
          will have to be replaced.

        - In a single server environment it is sufficient to replace
the old LOGIN.EXE by a newer version.

        - If several servers are used, several tools must be
replaced. Novell offers a set of Updates for NetWare
          3.11/3.12 supporting Packet Signature.

        - PBURST.NLM and the Packet Signature tools are contained in
several self-extracting *.EXE files on the "Network Support
          Encyclopedia" CD from Novell.
