           *** Win/TV MCI Driver Installation Instructions ***

This diskette contains software to be used with Microsoft's Multimedia
Extensions for Windows 3.0 and with Windows 3.1.

To install and run the software on this diskette you must have Multimedia
Windows already installed on your system. Start up Windows and make sure
this diskette is in a floppy drive. Go to the Control Panel and double
click on the Drivers icon. Select Add and Add Unknown. Enter the path for
this diskette and click on OK. The MCI driver is then installed, as well as
a Control Panel applet. Due to a limitation of Windows, the Win/TV MCI
driver applet will not be displayed until Control Panel is exited and then
re-invoked.

The installation under Windows 3.0 will not use the new files on the
floppy but will (quietly) use the (old) files on the hard disk if
available. The installation program under Windows 3.1 will ask if you would
prefer to use the older version of the driver, etc. on your system.

To avoid these problems, if you have installed a previous version of the
MCI driver, please remove the driver first, using the Control Panel, exit
to DOS, and run the MCICLEAN.BAT provided on the install floppy. MCICLEAN
requires the drive that your current Windows is located on and the name of
the Windows directory e.g A:\MCICLEAN C WIN31. If no drive and/or
directory are specified, MCICLEAN will assume C:\WINDOWS as the Windows
directory. This will erase all the files from the WINDOWS and
WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory that need to be copied fresh from the install
floppy. The installation (as described above) will then proceed smoothly.
Please note that MCICLEAN assumes that there are no duplicate files in
the WINDOWS and WINDOWS/SYSTEM directories and that none of the required
files are found in other directories in your current path.

Please refer to the WIN/TV Software Developer's Guide for additional
information on DLL function calls supported, etc. Windows Write document,
WINTVMCI.WRI, included on this diskette, describes those MCI commands that
we currently support with this preliminary release.

Note that this version of the Win/TV MCI driver assumes that files
PCVIDEO.INI and PCVIDEO.DLL have already been installed in the
\WINDOWS and \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directories during installation of the Win/TV
Application Disk Version 3.0 (and above). If you are using an earlier
release of the Win/TV Application, please contact Hauppauge Customer
Service for an upgrade.

The Control Panel applet can be used to adjust the display, colors and
base address information for the overlay device. Note, however, that any
modifications made using the Control Panel applet will affect the operation
of the Win/TV under the Windows application, since both applications modify
hardware settings stored in the PCVIDEO.INI file.
