3. Short installation:

Complete installation instructions can be found
in the user manual in chapter 5. This is only a short reference.

a.) Please make sure that you have the current firmware to hand before
starting this installation procedure. You will need it
            directly after the following steps.

b.) Connect your MicroLink LANCOM (MPR) router with the
serial connection cable in the package to a serial
COM Port of your computer or laptop.

c.) Install and start any available terminal program, which
supports XMODEM file upload, for example the Telix terminal
program which is shipped with your router.

d.) Configure your terminal program for the selected COM port and set
the bitrate to 38400 bit/s. Login to the outband configuration
of MicroLink LANCOM (MPR) (please refer to the manual).

e.) Enter the command "do /firmware/firmware-upload" or short
"do /fi/fi". After the confirmation message the router is ready
            to upload the new firmware.

f.) Start the XMODEM upload process with your terminal program.
Please take care that you are uploading the file FLASHROM.UPX

g.) After the upload process is finished and the device has rebooted
an error message can be displayed. The message will disappear after
	    the next step.

h.) Power off the router and hold down the RETURN-key while switching
the router on again. With Windows 95 and Windows NT it can be
neccessary to repeatedly press the RETURN-key several times until
	    the router has booted up.
After boot up your MicroLink LANCOM will start an automatic
            firmware-upload.

i.) Start an XMODEM file upload with the current firmware 1.50 or
            newer.

j.) Now your router is updated with a new boot loader and firmware.
	    A previous configuration is lost.

NOTE: This procedure is neccessary only once. After flashing this
FLASHROM.UPX you can update your router with the most current
firmware available. Please use the instructions in the README
	      file delivered with the software.
Firmware updates will not destroy any configuration data.
Exeptions are noted in the file ADDENDUM.PDF (german).
Since firmware v.1.42 it is possible to save the configuration
	      on disk.

ELSA recommends to use ELSA LANconfig for the userfriendly
configuration of LANCOM Routers. The Windows software is
available on the ELSA Online Media.
