1. Overview

BIOSUPD.EXE is a utility to easily update the BIOS on an
ELSA VICTORY Erazor graphics board even if parts of the
        BIOS are destroyed.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Disk/CD Contents

The program disk/CD contains the following files:

        BIOSUPD.EXE the executable program

        RIVA.BAT starts BIOS programming automatically

DOS4GW.EXE DOS extender used by BIOSUPD.EXE

README.TXT this text file, including notes on the
                        current program release

LIESMICH.TXT German version of the text you are currently
                        reading

VER15403.BIN BIOS image for the ELSA VICTORY Erazor

---------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Usage Notes

3.1 Standard BIOS update

For updating a defective BIOS on your VICTORY Erazor graphics
board it is necassary to install another graphics board to see
screen outputs on your monitor while updating the new BIOS.

If you want to update the (or replace a corrupted version) BIOS
on your ELSA VICTORY Erazor graphics board just call RIVA.BAT
        from MS-DOS by:

        e.g.: A:\RIVA.BAT

you may also start the programm by

        BIOSUPD.EXE

        or better

        BIOSUPD.EXE -lock

The program will look for supported ELSA graphics boards.
If the program will find one of the supported graphic boards
in your computer, it will search for the correct BIOS image.

        Notes:

        - If the BIOS currently installed on your ELSA graphics board
is the same version than the BIOS image, no update is done.
If your old BIOS was corrupted (we must still be able to
read parts of the BIOS of your graphics board), it will be
          replaced.

        - If the BIOS currently installed is older than the BIOS image
and if it is ok, no update will be done.
If your older BIOS is corrupted, it will be replaced.
Please remember that we must still be able to read parts
          of the corrupted BIOS.

If you use the -lock option you can be sure your ROM is
in a write-protected state after program execution.

3.2 Update corrupted BIOS

Use the same options as in the standard BIOS update:

        BIOSUPD.EXE

        or

        BIOSUPD.EXE -lock

The program will scan the corrupted BIOS for some ELSA specific
data to check if there is an ELSA board installed.
If it is not possible (anymore) to find these ELSA specific data
the program BIOSUPD.EXE can't update your graphics board.
See Section 5.2 for more details.

3.3 Command Line Parameters

        BIOSUPD.EXE -h
        BIOSUPD.EXE -help
        BIOSUPD.EXE -?

Gives you a list of supported commands.

        BIOSUPD.EXE -lock

If BIOSUPD.EXE programs a new BIOS it will write-protect the
        BIOS i-ROM.
To be sure the FLASH-ROM is write protected after the execution
of BIOSUPD.EXE even if no programming was done, use the -lock
        option.

        BIOSUPD.EXE -dir <directory>

Without the Option -dir BIOSUPD.EXE searches for the BIOS images
        in the current directory.
With the option -dir <directory> it is possible to search in a
        different directory:

        BIOSUPD.EXE -dir C:\BIOS\IMAGES

---------------------------------------------------------------------

4. Release Notes

4.1 Supported graphics boards

          ELSA VICTORY Erazor

The program BIOSUPD.EXE will check if the BIOS image is valid
and useable with your ELSA graphics board.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

5. Notes & Warnings

5.1 Don't corrupt your BIOS!

Please make sure that while programming a new BIOS to your
        ELSA graphics board you

        - don't reset,
        - don't switch off
          or
        - don't interrupt your computer in any way until it's finished!

If you interrupt BIOSUPD.EXE in any way before finishing your
BIOS, you will corrupt the BIOS of your graphics board.
In this case, please phone our support.

Please wait, until BIOSUPD.EXE has finished programming the new
BIOS to your ELSA graphics board.

The program BIOSUPD.EXE will give you a note after it has
        successfully finished the BIOS programming.

5.2 Corrupted BIOS

If your BIOS is corrupted, BIOSUPD.EXE will scan the corrupted
BIOS for some ELSA specific data.
If it is not possible to detect these ELSA specific data, no
update can be done (Errormessage 'not supported boardcode').
        Reasons for this may be:
        - no ELSA board
        - too corrupted BIOS
In this case please contact our support.

5.3 Windows DOS-boxes, OS/2

Please note that the program BIOSUPD.EXE doesn't work in a
        Windows (98/NT) DOS-box or under OS/2.

You have to boot a DOS system.
