-----------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Installation

These drivers can only be used under OS/2 WARP Version 4.

To guarantee a successful installation, be sure to have the
original VGA driver installed and active.

3.1 Restoring the original VGA driver

Use the restore option at system boot time (Alt+F1) and reset
the primary display to VGA. Consult your OS/2 manual
        for further information.

You have to reboot the system for the change to take effect.

3.2 Installation of the ELSA drivers version 01.06:

Insert your ELSA CD into your drive, open the CD-ROM
drive object on your desktop, change to the OS/2
directory appropriate for your graphics card
        (i.e., \WINNER\2000AVI\OS2) and start SETUP.EXE.
The contents of this file should appear on the
        "Introduction" page.

3.3 Using the setup program

On the "Adapter Info" page you may view information about your
graphics adapter. Use the "Help" function for detailed
        explanations of the displayed items.

You will have to specify your monitor and the desired graphics
        resolution on the "Resolution" page.
For example: the settings 1280x1024 specify a desktop size of
        2560x1024 split between two monitors.
Please be sure that the information concerning your monitor is
correct and complete (particularly the scan rates) in order to
        avoid damaging your monitor.
After you have selected resolution and monitor you have to
set these parameters by pressing the "Set" button.
Please use two identical monitors, the resolution can be tested
        on the first monitor only.

If the standard resolutions are not sufficient for your
purposes or if your monitor is not listed in the monitor
        database, press the "Add" button.
You will then be able to define custom resolutions and
        monitor-parameters.

Use the "Installation" page to select the files to transfer to
your hard disk and to start the installation process. Use the
"Help" button in order to get further information. After
completion of the installation you have to shut down and reboot
your system. OS/2 WARP will start with the selected resolution.
If you have specified the "ELSA Resolution Manager" in the
installation procedure, you can use it for changing the
        selected resolution.

You might need the OS/2 WARP 4 operating system CD, because it
might be necessary to install the OS/2 GRADD support from the
        CD.

3.4 If there is only one, or two different graphics boards
installed, the driver will reset to single-mode.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

4. Notes

4.1 This driver supports the following graphics boards:

You will find a list in the header of this file.

4.2 De-Installation:

        1. Reset to VGA

Use the restore option at system boot time (Alt+F1) and reset
the primary display to VGA. Consult your OS/2 handbook
        for further information.

You have to reboot the system for the change to take effect.

        2. delete the files

            - P2.DLL (bootdrive:\os2\dll)
            - ELSAPMI.DLL (bootdrive:\os2\dll)
            - P2FILT.DLL (bootdrive:\os2\dll)
            - ELSAMODE.DAT (bootdrive:\os2)
            - SVGADATA.PMI (bootdrive:\os2)

              example: DEL C:\OS2\DLL\P2.DLL

        3. delete the Windows drivers and WINman

           - WINNER??.DRV (..\WINOS2\SYSTEM or ..WINDOWS\SYSTEM)
           - WINIC31.DLL

           - WINman.exe (..\WINOS2\SYSTEM or ..WINDOWS\SYSTEM)
                               (older version in WINDOWS directory)
           - WINMAENG.HLP
           - WINMAENG.DLL
           - WINMAN.INI
           - WINMAN.MON

4.3 WIN-OS/2 Configuration:

To change the standard configuration, use the Windows program
WINman which is automatically started after first calling
WINOS2. An online help is available.

By default, the ELSA Windows Driver WINNER08.DRV is installed
        with a resolution of 640x480x256.

The WINNERxx.drv files (in WINDOWS) are copied to the WINOS/2
directory during the installation. You don't have to copy and
expand this driver from the GUI-disk.

4.4 ELSA DESKman Tool

Use this program to adjust the display of message boxes and
maximized windows. Choose between left, right or that board
the mouse pointer is currently displayed on. These settings
        take effect immediately.

4.5 Full screen sessions

OS/2, DOS and WIN-OS/2 full screen sessions will only be
displayed on the first board and not be shown on both monitors.

4.6 If two different monitors are used, the better one should be
the second monitor. On most motherboards the second board is
the graphics board with the lower PCI number.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

6. Caveats / Known Problems

6.1 Wrong colors in a true color mode (not with FixPak3):

fix: replace the system file SOFTDRAW.DLL by the corresponding
             file of fixpack 1
             (unpack softdraw.dl_ )

6.2 FixPaks

6.2.1 FixPak1

There is a known problem with the FixPak and any GRADD-Driver.
After the installation of the FixPak the VIO-windows contain
irregular characters (they look very cryptic).

Work-around: replace the pmmerge.dll with the previous version.
We didn't get any disadvantage with this solution.
6.2.2 FixPak3

The problems listed under 6.1 and 6.2.1 are fixed.

DIVE doesn't perform a color conversion in TrueColor mode. Hence
it follows that in most cases the Software Motion Video will
        be used.

fix : replace the system file DIVE.DLL by the corresponding file
              of your backup (unpack dive.dl_).

6.3 Restoration of the original OS/2-VGAGRADD driver

Open the folder "Install/Remove" and start "Selective Install".
Choose "Video Graphics Array (VGA) GRADD" as Primary Display
and follow the further instructions of the install program.

OS2.INI: The key DEFAULTSYSTEMRESULUTION in the
                      application PM_DISPLAYDRIVERS must be deleted.
                      Please delete it if exists.

SVGADATA.PMI: Delete this file when you find it in your
                      bootdrve's OS2 directory.

You have to reboot the system for the change to take effect.

6.4 Comet cursor and videos

Playing a video with comet cursor on causes system hangs.

        fix: Disable the comet cursor.

6.5 APM

A monitor turned off by APM couln't be reactivated.

fix: Enable all powermanagement options in your system BIOS.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

7. EnDIVE

You can use the "ELSA EnDIVE Filter" tool for setting and
        viewing various parameters of EnDIVE.

The tool disables automatically the controls which are not
applicable in the actual video mode. So, if a control is
grayed or resetted the driver refuse the settings.

The "Video Memory" display informs you about your usage of the
        free offscreen memory.

For testing purposes or when using programs with faulty EnDIVE
support you can switch off EnDIVE entirely and control the use
        of the filter.

The settings will be stored so that they are activ atfer program
termination even after a system reboot.

7.1 Filtering

The filter improves image quality for scaled AVI movies.

The setting for the filter is done via the "ELSA EnDIVE
Set" tool. Filtering is not set by default.
The filter isn't available by reolutions with 256 colors.

        Supported on first board only

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

8. Adjustments (CONFIG.SYS)

By use of the SET command in the CONFIG.SYS you can adjust
        some behaviour of the driver.

8.1 SET ELSA_RESET=[H|L]

Use this to reset the selected resolution to one of these:

        H = 1024x768x8@75Hz
        L =  640x480x8@60Hz

This setting is valid as long as it appears in the CONFIG.SYS.

8.2 SET TIM=........
This makes the video timing produced by WINMAN applicable to the
WPS. The driver takes the TIM line prior to the mode setting done
by the "ELSA Resolution Manager". However, it is lower in priority
        than the ELSA_RESET line.

8.3 SET USE_SMALL_FONTS=[0|1]

To use the small icons in a high resolution mode.

1 = small icons should be used in a high res mode
0 = default icon size should be used.

Hint: The usage of this flag may cause an incorrect display of
              the maximize window botton.
